Future research

There still remain a number of sites within the Knowlton complex as yet untouched by Bournemouth University’s programme of research. This is particularly true since the dry summer of 1995 revealed further cropmark enclosures within the Knowlton area. Over the next year it is intended to carry out the following work.

• A geophysical survey over the interior of the church henge
• Geophysical survey over an extensive portion of the Northern Barrow cemetery, including two enclosures visible with it.
• Geophysical survey over two enclosures which were recorded in 1995 on aerial photographs within the field surrounding the church henge.

In addition, it is hoped that a small scale excavation across a ?trackway feature near the Southern henge will be carried out this summer by the East Dorset Antiquarian Society in association with Bournemouth University.

This work will be carried out in conjunction with an investigation of several rectangular enclosures noted by aerial photography in the area of the Dorset cursus.
